5 Reasons to Book Your Bridal Hair and Makeup Trial

The time has come. You are engaged, you are in full wedding planning mode, you have your bridal party picked out and alas - it is time to find your dream glam squad. Let’s face it, no wedding day is complete without a hair and makeup stylist. But when asked if you are interested in scheduling a hair and makeup trial you think to yourself, I don’t know… is a trial really necessary?

We are here to tell you that on one of the most special days of your life… YES! Would you book your wedding venue without ever seeing it? Probably not. Here are the five reasons why we suggest that your response to this question is always a yes, and a confident one!

Get To Know Your Artists

Hair and makeup trials are a great opportunity to get to know your hair and makeup artist, their skill level and to determine if they are the right fit for you and your bridal party. Feeling comfortable and secure with your artist is essential! Here at Bridal4TheWin, if by chance you are unhappy with your assigned artist we will provide a complimentary trial with a different one.

Save The Surprises For The Speeches

Think of a trial as a security blanket for you and your artist. You will know what your makeup will look like, what your hair will look like and who your artist is. On the flip side, your artist will know what products to bring, products to have available and if there are allergies they should be aware of. No surprises!

Wedding Day Time is Valuable, So Plan Ahead!

It may seem like you have loads of time scheduled the morning of, but it goes by fast! It is important to run on schedule and on time, especially if you are opting for a first look. By completing a trial, you and your artist will know the desired look and how long it will take to perform. This will save a lot of valuable time.

Discuss The Details

Hair up, or hair down? Curled? Fake eyelashes? Airbrush foundation? These are all details that your artist will discuss with you during your trial. A look that is natural to you, may not be natural to your artist. Your hair may require some adjustments to look like that boho braid you found on Pinterest. It is also possible that you may be allergic to an ingredient in a cosmetic or hair product. A trial run gives you the opportunity to test out not only the final look, but the products used.

We suggest planning a date night or girls night out on the day or evening of your trial. Keeping your hair and makeup look on for about three hours will provide you the opportunity to determine how well it stayed in place and if there are adjustments you would like to make on the day of.

Why Airbrush Makeup is a Brides Best Friend

Yes, it is all about the dress. But your beautiful face will be just as much the center of attention as you make your grand entrance on your wedding day. While moments pass quickly, there is one thing for certain - your photos last forever. Therefore, brides are often stuck wondering… is airbrush makeup worth it?

What is airbrush makeup? Aside from being pretty much tear proof, the airbrush makeup technique sprays a fine mist of foundation resulting in a consistent, even application. Providing a lightweight yet buildable coverage, this technique is perfect for covering those pesky imperfections while often being thinner than traditional foundation formulas.

Airbrush makeup will last all day. Once makeup and hair are completed and the photographer arrives, weddings tend to move fast. There is limited time for touch-ups unless previously scheduled into the run of the show. This is one of the major advantages of the airbrush technique. THE kiss? Hugging all those relatives you haven’t seen since the holidays? Outdoor and indoor photos? Airbrush foundation will withstand it all.

It’s buildable. If desired, airbrush makeup can still deliver a full coverage application. By layering the airbrush, our makeup artists have better control over problem areas like scars, blemishes, tattoo coverage and yes, even sunburn.

Arizona heat? Never heard of her. Since airbrush makeup is silicone-based and more water-resistant than regular makeup, it’s pretty much a desert daydream come true. Heat, humidity, sweat, and tears don’t stand a chance.

Save the cake for the reception. Some brides think airbrush makeup will result in a “cakey” look, but in fact, it is the exact opposite. Most people don’t even feel it on their face! Because of the spraying technique, the natural hues in your skin can radiate through the makeup allowing it to settle into your completion quite naturally. Bonus tip: airbrush foundation is a go-to for mature skin, talk about minimizing those wrinkles we all wish would disappear!

If you’re still unsure about adding on airbrush makeup for your wedding day, think about booking a makeup trial with your artist. By doing so, you will be able to test the airbrush makeup technique and how it holds up to your skin. That would also be a great opportunity to consult with your artists on any lingering questions or concerns surrounding the airbrush foundation.

Ultimately, our goal is for you to look and feel like the most beautiful version of yourself. Especially on your wedding day.

How to Prep for Your Wedding Hair and Makeup Trial

Congratulations! You booked your wedding hair and makeup trial. You are now one step further to fulfilling the bridal beauty look of your dreams. But, not so fast. Here are some tips to be sure your trial goes smoothly and what to expect once you get there.

For some, it is tricky to figure out the exact desired look for the wedding day. We suggest creating an inspiration board on Pinterest of hair and makeup looks that best align with your vision, and be prepared to share them with your artist during the trial. Inspiration photos are helpful for your artist in understanding your taste, however, it is important to arrive with an open mind. For example, all those boho braided looks on Pinterest… well, they style a bit differently between brown hair and two-toned blonde hair. Your stylist will use all these photos to bring one cohesive vision to life.

Pro tip: Bring along photos of what you don’t like, too! Your definition of a “smoky eye” might be much different from the makeup artist’s definition!

Your hair and/or makeup artist will ask various questions through out the trial to ensure you receive the desired look. Communication is key, so it is helpful to decide what about the inspiration photos you like best: eyeshadow shades, blush color, the contour, the skin’s texture, etc.

Don’t worry though, the trial works both ways! Feel free to let your stylist know what to stay away from too. There is no pressure to wait until the look is finished to ask questions about the look.

Don’t forget to bring your veil, hair accessories or other headpieces that should be incorporated into your wedding day look. If you plan to wear extensions on your wedding day, you should bring them to the trial as well.

At Bridal4TheWin, our goal is for every bride to feel beautiful and confident on her very special day. If you are unhappy with your assigned artist, we will provide a complimentary trial with a different artist.

Please note we will hold your artist for 2 weeks. A retainer fee is required to lock them down for your wedding date.
